Connecting to inbox files via webdav

Our Inbox Files product supports access via WebDAV — an open protocol that allows you to mount your cloud storage as a regular network drive on your computer.

Why use it?

WebDAV allows you to manage files directly from Windows, macOS, or other applications — without the need to log in through a web interface. You can:

  • Copy and move files as you would on a regular drive

  • Open documents directly in office applications

  • Work with large files more quickly and conveniently

Benefits:

  • Convenience: access your cloud files directly from your file system

  • Cross-platform support: works on Windows, macOS, and soon — in our mobile inbox.lv app

  • Backup storage: all files transferred via WebDAV are automatically stored in your Inbox Files cloud, ensuring protection and availability even in case of local device failures

  • Standards-compliant: compatible with any application that supports WebDAV

  • Recommended clients: Since WebDAV implementation varies between systems, we recommend using the following trusted clients:

    • Windows 11 (built-in File Explorer)

    • Owlfiles

    • WinSCP

Limitations:

  • The full file path (including file name) must not exceed 254 characters

  • Inbox WebDAV requires the client to send the total file size before upload. If the client does not support this (or the option is disabled), the WebDAV connection will not function properly

  • Some tools may have issues processing special characters in file or folder names. Avoid using special characters where possible

    • Known issue: Owlfiles on Windows incorrectly handles the “#” character — uploading files with this symbol in the name may result in errors or unpredictable behavior

Connecting via WebDAV is a great solution for users who want to work with their files quickly and efficiently — without relying on a web browser.
